Michael E. Cain
For Doña Ana District Attorney
MY Top 3 priorities:
Accountability
My office will have a team of senior prosecutors to ensure cases are properly charged. Over-charged and under-charged cases result in delays during the process. We will also change the methods by which cases are charged to ensure the file is complete when charged, which will eliminate delays and dismissals due to delays..
Fostering strong working relationships with local law enforcement is our top priority. My office will provide necessary legal training to law enforcement departments both during their academies and during their ongoing training.
All this will be made possible by being in close communications with the Las Cruces Police Chief, the Doña ana County Sheriff, and the State Police Commander.
2. Competence
I have been in the practice of law for over 24 years. I was a prosecutor for 4 years and spent another 2 years prosecuting child abuse and neglect cases for the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department. I have been in private practice since 2006. In that time I have successfully completed over 150 full jury trials to verdict with an exceptional percentage of favorable outcomes. My reputation within the local legal community is stellar which is reflected in the many 5-star reviews received by my firm.
With all this in mind, I am not a career bureaucratic politician. I’m a hard working business man that understands the law on a fundamental level through real life experience. I am ready to serve my community at a higher level for the betterment of humanity.
3. Leadership
I am a United States Army veteran and rose to the rank of Captain. I held a command as the Battery Commander of a HAWK Air Defense Artillery Battery. My responsibility included command of 120 soldiers and a $250 million dollar set of equipment. During this time period, I learned how to form teams with expertise in different disciplines, which accomplish the mission and achieve the desired goals.
I would like to use this proven ability to benefit the citizens of Dona Ana County and the community so that criminals are served justice and our residents can be safe. Beyond all this, and as an American Citizens and local member of this community, my family has a vested interest in providing a better place for my daughter and grand children to live.
